Sheena

$8,000.00

Legendary comic heroine “Sheena” immortalized in natural stone.

This mosaic takes inspiration from Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, one of the first female characters in comics to headline her own series. Known for her independence and ability to survive in wild, untamed environments, Sheena represented a powerful shift in how women were portrayed in adventure stories.

Sheena first appeared in Jumbo Comics #1 in 1938 and became the first female comic book character to headline her own title, predating even Wonder Woman. Created by Will Eisner and S.M. "Jerry" Iger, Sheena quickly rose to fame as a bold, jungle-dwelling heroine skilled in survival, combat, and animal communication. In 1955, Irish McCalla was the first ever on-screen portrayal of Sheena. In 1984, a movie based on her character was released with female lead Tanya Roberts. In 2007, the TV show Sheena starred Gina Nee Lolin.

Unique and finely cut, the mosaic merges a fierce tiger with a strong female face, reflecting Sheena’s dual nature—human and wild, composed and instinctive. The contrast between the colorful tiger the black and white Sheena emphasize her prowess and animalistic abilities. Her eyelashes, eyebrows, and flowing hair are cut with the finest precision. The coloring on her face shows expression and shadows from light, seamlessly bringing her to life. Her lips match the ferocious white hair of the tiger, representing her connection to animals.

The anatomically accurate tiger has 12 incisors and 4 massive, terrifying canines. Continuing upwards, the nose is finely created; its fur is overlapping and abundant. The tiger's eyes are level with Sheena's, and the combination makes for a striking pose. Composed of over 15 colors, this mosaic jumps out from the wall.
