This central figure evokes imagery of ancient South Arabian sculpture. The elongated face is composed of warm yellow and ochre tones, with defined eyes, a straight nose, and a small mouth. A central stem rises from the forehead, ending in an orange bud bet ween two curved green leaves. Gray patches in the pale stone background frame the head neck, contrasting with the figure’s darker tones.
Alexander Aboutaam sketched the design for this mosaic over many months, working with authentic ancient sculptures in different shades of lighting. His photoshoot with Rhizom, a Parisian florist studio, planted the seed in his head to combine sculpture with plants, resulting in this mosaic that represents growth and personal development, appropriately named “Spring.” It was created alongside the 5th piece in this catalog, titled “Autumn”.
